During the 2024 festive season, over 1.2 million gig roles were posted, revealing a 23% increase from the previous year. This surge is attributed to the rise of e-commerce and tech advancements, alongside the growing appeal of flexible, on-demand work post-pandemic.
An Avsar report highlights the influence of a booming retail environment, shifting customer expectations, and increasing consumer expenditure on this trend. It signifies a transformation in how individuals and businesses perceive work, according to Navneet Singh, Avsar's founder and CEO.
Tier II cities like Surat and Jaipur emerged as significant gig hubs, despite metro areas like Mumbai and Delhi NCR comprising 53% of total demand. The report notes a rise in gig role salaries, driven by a competitive market and a shortage of skilled workers, with logistics, retail, and e-commerce showing the highest demands.
