Chinese aviation giant COMAC has officially rebranded its ARJ21 regional jet as the C909. This strategic rebranding aligns with the company's goal to challenge dominant Western manufacturers like Airbus and Boeing. Announced at the Zhuhai Air Show, the move signals a bold new chapter for the state-owned enterprise.
Marketing Director Zhang Xiaoguang discussed the decision, stating that the rebrand was the result of extensive consultation and deliberation. The C909 offers numerous advancements over its predecessor, including reduced weight and noise, and improved flying costs. The company aims to build a strong brand with the slogan 'Old friend, New look.'
As COMAC expands its fleet, it endeavors to sell a competitive 124 ARJ21 jets already in operation. Hainan Airlines, among others, plans to order additional units by the 2030s. The effort reflects China's growing capability and potential to become a full-scale aviation competitor on the global stage.
