Balmer Lawrie Ventures into Rail Logistics
Balmer Lawrie & Company, a diversified PSU, has signed a deal with GATX India Private Limited to lease three railcar rakes. This agreement marks Balmer Lawrie's entry into rail logistics for transporting SAIL's finished steel products. The company aims to become a Rs 6000-crore entity by 2030.

Balmer Lawrie & Company, a diversified public sector undertaking (PSU), announced on Monday its strategic entry into rail logistics. The company has signed an agreement with GATX India Private Limited, a private railcar lessor, to lease three rakes.
The leasing of these rakes will facilitate the transportation of finished steel products from Steel Authority of India's (SAIL) Rourkela plant, covering distances over 1000 kilometres, according to a company statement.
Balmer Lawrie's Chairman and Managing Director, Adhip Nath Palchaudhuri, highlighted the significance of this move for the PSU's business growth. He emphasized the role of domestic transportation in achieving the company's ambition of becoming a Rs 6000-crore enterprise by 2030. Additionally, the company plans to expand its logistics services to include the transportation of caustic soda and bulk chemicals in the future.
