The Charmadi Ghat section of National Highway-73 is poised for expansion, with Karnataka MP Capt. Brijesh Chowta announcing a significant allocation of Rs 343.74 crore for this project. This development, set to widen the 11-kilometer stretch to two lanes, is expected to facilitate smoother travel along Karnataka's Western Ghats.
Completion of the tender process means construction can commence shortly, aiming to benefit passengers from Karnataka's coastal districts and improve the transport of goods, thus invigorating local commerce. Capt. Chowta expressed gratitude towards Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Minister Nitin Gadkari for their support in moving this initiative forward.
The project carries considerable strategic importance, promising to tackle traffic congestion along Charmadi Ghat and transform it into a reliable transit route. However, whether the upgraded highway will directly support container shipments through New Mangaluru Port remains to be seen.
