With the festive spirit of Dhanteras in the air, the Bureau of Indian Standards (BIS) is urging consumers to make informed purchases of gold and silver, backed by the BIS hallmark's assurance. BIS emphasizes the importance of hallmarked jewellery, which guarantees quality and authenticity, ensuring smart investments this holiday season.

Buyers can verify the Hallmark Unique ID (HUID) via the 'Verify HUID' feature on the BIS Care App, confirming that their purchases meet advertised standards. Hallmarking is priced at Rs 45 per piece (excluding taxes), and jewellery can be tested at BIS-recognized Assaying and Hallmarking Centres for Rs 200 per item.

The BIS hallmarking process involves three elements: the BIS Standard Mark, Purity Mark, and the unique HUID, certifying each piece's authenticity. Since mandatory implementation in June 2021, BIS has expanded hallmarking to 343 districts, enhancing trust and increasing registered jewellers and recognized centers significantly.

BIS hallmarking operates as a third-party verifier, reassuring consumers of their gold's genuine purity. Pramod Kumar Tiwari, BIS Director General, emphasized their commitment to consumer protection, urging buyers to choose BIS-certified goods for authentic and assured purchases using the user-friendly BIS CARE App.

Dhanteras, associated with wealth and prosperity, encourages gold purchases across India, making BIS hallmarking a pivotal component for securing genuine investments. (ANI)
