The government has announced a notable change in export duties, with parboiled rice and husked (brown) rice now exempt from such charges. This follows a reduction from a previous 10 percent levy to zero percent.
The notification, issued by the finance ministry late Tuesday, states that these duty cuts will take effect from October 22. The Election Commission has approved the measure, provided it does not serve as a political advantage ahead of upcoming state elections in Jharkhand and Maharashtra.
Last month, a similar duty reduction was made for non-basmati white rice, initially reducing the levy from 20 to 10 percent. The minimum export price for basmati rice was also eliminated to encourage exports and support farmers' income.
