Vegetable prices have surged in Odisha, with potatoes and onions taking the brunt as cyclone fears spur consumer panic. Prices rose sharply at Cuttack's Chhatra Bazaar, where potatoes jumped from Rs 30 to Rs 50 per kg, and onions increased to Rs 60 per kg, amid looming cyclone warnings.

Tomatoes reached Rs 80 to 100 per kg in Bhubaneswar markets. Other vegetables, including brinjal, ladyfinger, and cauliflower, saw price increases of Rs 10 to 20 per kg. Long queues formed as residents rushed to stock up, anticipating further supply chain disruptions due to the impending cyclone, expected by October 25.

Traders attribute the price hike to decreased truck supplies and cyclone fears. Odisha's Food Supplies Minister Krushna Chandra Patra warned against profiteering and black marketing, stating enforcement measures are underway to prevent illegal hoarding as the government attempts to stabilize prices.
