Commercial vehicle owners in Mizoram will begin an indefinite strike on October 14, demanding a reduction in fuel prices, according to the Mizoram Commercial Vehicle Union (MCVU). MCVU President PC Malsawma expressed dissatisfaction with the government's decision to hike petrol and diesel prices by Rs 4 per litre effective September 1.

The decision to strike comes after repeated but unsuccessful appeals to the state government, led by the Zoram People's Movement (ZPM), to reconsider the price hikes. MCVU members convened on Monday, resolving to halt all commercial vehicle operations until their demands are met.

MCVU met with Chief Minister Lalduhoma and Taxation Minister Vanlalthlana to discuss the issue. However, the government maintained the price hike to generate over Rs 90 crore in additional revenue for social infrastructure and road maintenance.
