The Indian government's regional air connectivity initiative, UDAN, has successfully launched 601 routes and established 71 airports, according to the civil aviation ministry's recent statement on Sunday.

Introduced in October 2016, the Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik (UDAN) scheme focuses on enhancing connectivity and making air travel more affordable to boost accessibility to remote locations.

With airport numbers doubling from 74 in 2014 to 157 in 2024, UDAN's long-term vision is set to increase operational airports to between 350 and 400 by the year 2047, marking significant progress in India's aviation sector.
