In a significant policy shift, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry Piyush Goyal has declared the longstanding H1B visa issue a 'thing of the past'. This announcement came during a press conference at Vanijya Bhavan, New Delhi, where Goyal underscored the new strategic priorities shaping Indo-U.S. dialogues.
Minister Goyal's recent U.S. tour, including his two-day stop in New York, placed significant emphasis on attracting foreign investment into India's vibrant pharmaceutical and diamond industries. The Minister met with numerous business leaders, including CEOs of major multinational companies, signaling a renewed focus on sectors ripe for development and enhanced collaboration.
In Washington, Goyal's agenda included a luncheon meeting with 17 industry leaders from the CEO forum, where they discussed the forum's future trajectory amidst upcoming member term expirations in December. The visit also saw the signing of various Memorandums of Understanding, reinforcing the resolve to solidify business ties and venture beyond traditional areas into fields such as clean energy and technology.
Goyal's engagements also extended to SMEs, academic institutions, and strategic think tanks, shaping a holistic view of ongoing dialogues. Notably different from past visits, this trip was marked by positive discussions, with no 'negative agendas', highlighting strengthened Indo-U.S. relations. Topics such as bioscience advancements were discussed, though election dynamics slowed progress on biofuels.
