Port of Montreal Disruption: Impact of Work Stoppage
Operations at the Port of Montreal face significant disruptions due to a partial strike, affecting 40% of container handling capacity. Goods at forwarding agents are delayed, and a 10% drop in cargo volume is expected. Additionally, five container ships scheduled to arrive have been postponed.
Operations at the Port of Montreal faced significant disruption as a partial strike took effect. The work stoppage, specifically at the Viau and Maisonneuve terminals, has paralyzed about 40% of the port's container handling capacity.
Goods scheduled to transit through these terminals are currently being held up at forwarding agents, worsening the logistical chain for businesses reliant on timely shipping.
The slowdown is projected to slash total cargo volumes handled at the port by 10%. In conjunction, five container ships queued for arrival over the next few days have also been delayed, compounding the operational challenges.
