Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has announced a raise in the mandi labor charges for loading and unloading grains by Rs one per quintal.
This decision provides significant relief to laborers working in mandis across the state and introduces an additional burden of Rs 18 crore on the state exchequer. The paddy procurement for the Kharif Marketing season 2024-25 began on Tuesday.
Meanwhile, Chief Minister Mann has instructed ministers and MLAs to visit mandis and speed up the paddy procurement process. Public representatives are expected to ensure the prompt purchase and lifting of farmers' produce, ensuring a seamless process to avoid any inconvenience for the farmers. The state government aims to procure 185 lakh metric tonnes of paddy during this season.
