The Kerala Express narrowly escaped a potential disaster as some of its coaches rolled over broken rail tracks in Lalitpur district, officials reported on Tuesday.

Luckily, no passengers were injured in the incident, which took place on Monday afternoon. The train, which had departed from Bina station in Madhya Pradesh and was en route to New Delhi, came to an emergency halt just before reaching Jhansi station in Uttar Pradesh.

Passengers onboard the Kerala Express recounted how several coaches passed over a broken section of track before the train stopped. Railway authorities have since launched an investigation into the matter. A senior railway officer stated that ongoing repair work on the track had necessitated the red flag signal, prompting the locomotive pilot to stop the train using emergency brakes. The incident occurred as the train was traveling from Thiruvananthapuram to New Delhi.

Following the emergency halt, the train continued to its scheduled stop at Veerangana Laxmi Bai Station in Jhansi, where passengers shared their experiences with the media. One passenger detailed how workers repairing the track fled upon seeing the train, adding that three coaches had already crossed the broken rail by the time the train halted.
