The Indian Plastics Federation (IPF) has announced an initiative to establish two additional poly parks in West Bengal, complementing its existing Sankrail polypark, to meet soaring demand amidst anti-plastic sentiment.
With a shortage of skilled labor, IPF will also launch a sector skill center at Sankrail, pending National Skill Development Corporation (NSDC) approval.
IPF President Lalit Agarwal highlighted significant capex plans amounting to Rs 3,000 crore, potentially creating 2 lakh jobs. One poly park is proposed for Uluberia, with another site being considered along the Durgapur Highway.
The federation is poised to boost the state's GDP by Rs 20,000 crore, on top of the existing Rs 35,000 crore from 5,500 units, largely in the MSME sector, employing around 5 lakh individuals.
IPF is advocating for better plastic disposal practices, with government mandates for recycling seen as reducing environmental hazards.
The curtailment of Chinese toy imports has driven domestic demand, with toy production in India rising from 2-3% to an estimated 50%, according to Amit Kumar Agarwal.
