In a significant crackdown on traffic violations, the Delhi Traffic Police has issued over 87,000 challans and more than three lakh notices for red light violations up to September 15 this year, according to official data.

Challans are being issued on-site by traffic personnel, while notices are generated online through traffic violation detection cameras. The data indicates a spike in red light violations this year, with 87,430 challans recorded compared to 66,774 in 2023 and 67,462 in 2022.

The highest number of challans was issued in the New Delhi district, followed by south, west, southeast, and southwest districts. To further curb traffic violations, the Delhi Traffic Police plans to install over 300 additional red light violation detection (RLVD) and over speed violation detection (OSVD) cameras at various strategic locations across the capital.
