For the second consecutive day, all flights to and from Belgium's Charleroi airport, a major hub for Ryanair, were canceled due to an ongoing strike by airport employees. The strike has severely affected operations and prompted the airport to issue a statement advising passengers to contact their airlines directly.
According to the airport's website, at least 87 flights were scheduled to depart on Friday, with six redirected to Brussels Airport, located approximately 70 km (44 miles) away. The strike originally began as a wildcat action, catching many travelers and officials by surprise. Labour union CNE reported that the strike commenced amid organizational efforts announced last week.
Unions and airport authorities have been engaged in negotiations for months, primarily centered around improving working conditions for employees. Neither side has reached an agreement yet, leading to this continued disruption.
