Cathay Pacific Grounds Flights Due to Engine Failure: Inspection in Progress
Cathay Pacific Airways inspected its Airbus A350 fleet following an in-flight engine component failure. Flight CX383 returned to Hong Kong after dumping fuel over the sea. Rolls-Royce engines were identified as the issue. Cathay Pacific is replacing faulty components on impacted planes. Flight cancellations and investigations are ongoing.
Hong Kong's Cathay Pacific Airways has undertaken an extensive inspection of its Airbus A350 fleet following the in-flight failure of an engine component manufactured by British firm Rolls-Royce.
The occurrence transpired shortly after take-off during flight CX383 from Hong Kong to Zurich. The Airbus A350-1000 aircraft circled over the sea and safely returned to Hong Kong 75 minutes post-departure, after jettisoning fuel.
Cathay identified the malfunctioning component within the Rolls-Royce XWB-97 engine and indicated it was a rare first-time failure for an A350 worldwide. With inspections underway, the airline revealed it has already repaired three out of 15 affected planes.
