Delhi witnessed a grim rise in road crash fatalities in 2022, with at least four lives lost daily in preventable accidents, according to a report by the Delhi government. The data revealed a startling 28% increase from the previous year, underlining a growing safety concern on the city's roads.

The Delhi Road Crash Fatalities Report noted that 1,571 individuals were killed in 1,517 fatal crashes throughout the year. Pedestrians accounted for 50% of these fatalities, while 45% were drivers or passengers on two or three-wheelers. Most accidents were concentrated between 9 pm and 2 am, with hit-and-run cases alarmingly high.

The report highlighted that heavy and light motor vehicles were responsible for 81% of all reported crashes. Saturdays, Sundays, and Mondays reported the highest number of deaths. Enhanced enforcement measures were called for, especially in districts like North Delhi, which reported the highest number of fatal and hit-and-run crashes.
