Adani Ports and Special Economic Zone Ltd (APSEZ), India's premier port developer and operator, has inked a concession agreement with the Deendayal Port Authority (DPA) to spearhead the development of a new berth at Deendayal Port in Kandla, Gujarat. Whole-time Director and CEO of APSEZ, Ashwani Gupta, stated, "Berth No. 13 will diversify our presence at Deendayal Port by handling multipurpose clean cargo alongside our existing dry bulk operations. This initiative will further solidify our presence on the western coast and boost our capability to serve customers in Gujarat and northern India."

To streamline operations at the berth, APSEZ has set up a wholly-owned subsidiary named DPA Container and Clean Cargo Terminal Limited (DPACCCTL). The company received the Letter of Intent (LOI) for the project's development, operation, and maintenance in July 2024. The 30-year concession project, following the DBFOT (Design, Build, Finance, Operate, and Transfer) model, will manage multipurpose clean cargo, inclusive of containers. The 300-meter-long Berth No. 13 is projected to commence operations by FY27, with an annual capacity of 5.7 million metric tonnes (MMT).

Part of the Adani Group, APSEZ has transitioned from being merely a port operator to becoming an Integrated Transport Utility, providing an array of solutions from port to customer. APSEZ operates seven strategically located ports and terminals on India's west coast and eight on its east coast. These assets together account for 27 percent of the country's total port volumes, enabling efficient cargo handling across coastal and inland regions. Beyond India, APSEZ is developing a transshipment port in Colombo, Sri Lanka, and manages operations at Haifa Port in Israel and Container Terminal 2 at Dar Es Salaam Port in Tanzania. Through its extensive logistics platform, the company aims to become the world's largest ports and logistics platform within the next decade, capitalizing on the expected global supply chain shifts.
