CHENNAI, September 10 - MGM Healthcare Malar Adyar has successfully conducted India's first Emergency Transcatheter Aortic Valve Replacement (TAVR) using Aortic Ultrasound (AVUS), a cutting-edge medical milestone. Dr. AB Gopalamurugan and his 24/7 heart failure department performed the life-saving procedure.

The innovative surgery was carried out on a 70-year-old patient in cardiogenic shock due to critical aortic stenosis and severe left ventricular dysfunction. The patient's life was at great risk with a 50% admission mortality rate, compelling the medical team to leverage AVUS for the first time in India, providing real-time, high-resolution imaging without contrast agents.

"This successful intervention under local anesthesia immediately stabilized the patient and restored normal left ventricular function," said Dr. Gopalamurugan. The patient was discharged in just 48 hours, significantly reducing her mortality risk from 50% to 1%, showcasing the transformative potential of AVUS in emergency cardiac care.
