Civil Aviation Minister K Rammohan Naidu on Monday urged the aviation industry to adopt sustainable practices, including the use of sustainable aviation fuel (SAF), to reduce carbon emissions. Speaking at a conference organized by Ficci, Naidu announced efforts to blend 1% SAF with jet fuel for international flights by 2027, increasing to 2% by 2028.

In a move to enhance regional air connectivity, the civil aviation ministry has identified 106 airports and airstrips for development. Naidu highlighted the success of the UDAN scheme, which democratized air travel, and announced its extension for ten more years. The country will need 350 to 400 airports in the next 20-25 years, he said.

Civil Aviation Secretary Vumlunmang Vualnam confirmed the identification of new regional air connectivity projects. Industry leaders, including ATR and Airbus, expressed their commitment to supporting India's aviation ecosystem, noting the growing air traffic from Tier 2 and Tier 3 cities.
