Delhi's transport department is set to introduce new norms to enhance efficiency at interstate bus terminals by standardizing parking fees for private and state-run buses, Raj Niwas officials announced on Sunday. Lt Governor V K Saxena inspected the Maharana Pratap ISBT at Kashmere Gate on August 31 and led a high-level meeting with Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot.

The new rates and regulations will include a Rs 500 plus GST charge for parking up to 25 minutes, with escalating penalties for overstaying. Buses without FASTags will be barred from entry, though facilities to buy FASTags will be provided outside the terminals. This uniform fee system aims to alleviate traffic congestion and maximize revenue.

The reforms are expected to decrease bus turnaround times, thereby reducing passenger waiting periods and ensuring smoother traffic flow around the ISBTs. The officials stated these changes would help the terminals function optimally, better accommodating the current capacity of 3,000 buses per day.
