Piyush Goyal, Union Minister of Commerce and Industry, proposed forming a working group on tourism between India and Mediterranean nations to harness potential mutual benefits. Speaking at the CII India-Mediterranean Business Conclave 2024 in New Delhi, Goyal emphasized the vast market India offers for Mediterranean goods and services.
He highlighted shared interests in the shipping sector, including shipbuilding and the cruise business, noting India's port capacity has doubled in the past decade with plans to replicate this growth in the next five years. Goyal expressed optimism about the economic partnership, aiming for mutual growth, sustainability, and resilience.
Goyal also pointed out the significance of the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC) for enhancing maritime security and expediting goods movement. Initiatives like the PLI scheme and efforts towards Ease of Doing Business have bolstered India's manufacturing sector. India's rapid economic growth, supported by initiatives in renewable energy, manufacturing, and digitisation, offers abundant opportunities for investors.
