The International Independent Expert Mechanism to Advance Racial Justice and Equality in Law Enforcement will hold a public meeting on 11 September 2024, from 10:00 to 12:00 at the Palais des Nations in Geneva. The session will focus on the impact of new technologies, including artificial intelligence, on Africans and people of African descent.

The meeting is part of the Expert Mechanism's third annual session (9–13 September 2024) and seeks input from stakeholders on how these technologies intersect with the group's mandate, outlined in Human Rights Council resolutions 47/21 and 56/13. The Expert Mechanism will present its annual report at the 57th Human Rights Council session on 2 October 2024, detailing steps to ensure justice and accountability for excessive use of force and human rights violations against people of African descent. Reports on recent country visits to Brazil and Italy will also be shared.
