Seasonal hiring is expected to surge by 20%, driven primarily by the e-commerce sector amid a spike in consumer demand, according to data from job site Indeed.
Top gig roles experiencing this increase include delivery executives, warehouse workers, logistics coordinators, in-store sales executives, and customer care executives. Several industries are seeing a notable rise in demand for seasonal workers, with e-commerce leading at 35%, followed by logistics at 15%, retail at 14%, and quick commerce at 11%.
Head of Sales at Indeed India, Sashi Kumar, noted, "The festive season is crucial for businesses across India, and we're witnessing a significant uptick in hiring for seasonal roles as companies prepare to meet heightened consumer demand. The growing industries—e-commerce, logistics, quick commerce—are increasingly aligned with today's consumer needs." Metro cities like Mumbai, Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Kolkata report an 18-20% increase in seasonal hiring, while tier-2 and tier-3 cities, including Nagpur, Jaipur, and Kochi, are seeing an even higher surge of 22-25%.
