The government on Wednesday eased import norms for raw and calcined pet coke, permitting inbound shipments to cater to the domestic needs of the aluminium and other industries.

Previously, pet coke imports were restricted to only the aluminium sector. The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a notification stating, 'Import of RPC (raw pet coke) and CPC (calcined pet coke) shall be permitted to cater entirely to the domestic needs of the aluminium industry and other industries.'

In a separate notification, Odisha's forest, environment, and climate change department received an additional 12 months to export red sanders heartwood in log form. This wood, considered an endangered species, is highly sought after in China and Japan for its use in traditional medicines and woodcraft.
