The Ministry of Heavy Industries (MHI), Government of India, has announced the successful bidder under the Production Linked Incentive (PLI) Scheme for Advanced Chemistry Cell (ACC) Battery Storage. Reliance Industries Limited has been awarded a significant 10 GWh ACC manufacturing capacity through this initiative, positioning India as a global leader in battery manufacturing and reducing the nation's reliance on imports.

The selection process was conducted through a Quality & Cost Based Selection (QCBS) mechanism, ensuring transparency and competitiveness. Out of seven bidders who participated in the global tender for the 10 GWh capacity, six were shortlisted for financial evaluation. Ultimately, Reliance Industries Limited emerged as the top bidder, securing the highest overall score.

The other shortlisted companies include ACME Cleantech Solutions Private Limited, Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies Private Limited, Waaree Energies Limited, JSW Neo Energy Limited, and Lucas TVS Limited, all of which have been placed on a waiting list in order of rank.

This latest round of the PLI scheme, with a maximum budgetary outlay of Rs. 3,620 crores, further strengthens the government’s ongoing efforts to enhance domestic manufacturing capabilities. Initially approved by the Cabinet in May 2021, the PLI scheme aims to achieve a manufacturing capacity of 50 GWh of ACC with an investment outlay of Rs. 18,100 crores. The first round of bidding in March 2022 allocated 30 GWh capacity to three beneficiary firms, with agreements signed in July 2022.

The success of the PLI ACC scheme is a testament to India's growing status as a world-class manufacturing hub, resonating with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of an 'Atmanirbhar Bharat'—a self-reliant India. The overwhelming industry response highlights the sector’s confidence in India's manufacturing potential, further solidifying the country’s standing in the global market.
