Government Approves 8,606 Tonnes of Sugar Exports to U.S. Under TRQ Scheme

The government has announced the export of 8,606 tonnes of raw cane sugar to the U.S. for the October 2024 - September 2025 period under the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) scheme. The TRQ allows for lower customs duties up to a certain limit after which higher tariffs apply. India's Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) specified this quantity, which aligns with a similar quota declared earlier. The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will manage the quota.

The government on Tuesday announced the export of 8,606 tonnes of raw cane sugar to the U.S. under the tariff-rate quota (TRQ) scheme, covering the period from October 2024 to September 2025.

Under the TRQ scheme, these shipments will benefit from lower customs duties until the quota is fulfilled, after which higher tariffs will apply to additional imports.

According to a public notice issued by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), this specified quantity matches a similar one declared earlier this year. India, the second-largest sugar producer globally and its biggest consumer, also has preferential export arrangements with the European Union. The Agriculture and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) will oversee the operation of this quota.
