The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) has introduced new regulations to streamline airworthiness requirements for light aircraft and non-scheduled plane operators. The changes, set to take effect on January 1, 2025, aim to reduce the compliance burden on operators.
Currently, two primary Civil Aviation Requirements (CARs) — CAR-M and CAR-145 — govern aircraft airworthiness. CAR-M covers all aircraft types used in various operations, while CAR-145 focuses on maintenance for commercial and complex motor aircraft.
To simplify requirements, DGCA has introduced CAR-ML, CAR-CAO, and CAR-CAMO, aligned with the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) standards. These new and revised regulations are expected to help the aviation industry by easing compliance for operators using non-complex aircraft, including those in scheduled commercial operations.
