Delhi Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot on Monday recognized gig workers of food delivery companies as 'Pradushan Yodha' (warriors against pollution) while emphasizing the importance of electric vehicles.

Speaking at an event organized by Zomato and Blinkit at Talkatora Stadium, Gahlot acknowledged the gig workers as the backbone of India's economy, ensuring the swift delivery of household essentials and meals.

He lauded their dedication to both their jobs and environmental protection, affirming the Kejriwal government's support for adopting electric vehicles (EVs) to make Delhi pollution-free. Gahlot called on platform partners to facilitate the transition to EVs, highlighting significant environmental and economic advantages.

The event also saw engagement with electric two-wheeler manufacturers and discussions on various lease models to reduce upfront EV costs for delivery partners. Gahlot also mentioned the Delhi Motor Vehicle Aggregator and Delivery Service Provider Scheme, 2023, which mandates a complete fleet transition to electric by April 1, 2030, as a major step towards sustainable urban mobility.
