The Delhi Police has issued a formal request to the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) to implement extensive security measures at metro stations, official sources revealed on Friday.
Among the key recommendations are the enhancement of CCTV coverage especially on rail tracks, better lighting in poorly lit areas, trimming of overhanging tree branches, increasing the number of security guards, and the installation of platform screen doors (PSDs) at metro stations.
The police highlighted past security incidents including unauthorized graffiti on trains and thefts of metro cables, stressing that improved surveillance and security measures are crucial to curbing such occurrences. A recent incident involved suspects breaching metro premises to spray-paint wagons, while over 200 cases of cable theft have been reported in the past four years.
