A small plane was forced to make an emergency landing on a highway near Piedmont Triad International Airport in North Carolina. The single-engine aircraft encountered mechanical problems and issued a distress call around 8 p.m. Wednesday, according to Greensboro police.

The plane managed to land on westbound Interstate 840 at the intersection with Interstate 73. However, after coming to a stop, it was struck by a passenger vehicle. One of the plane's two occupants sustained minor injuries and was transported to a hospital. The driver of the vehicle remained unharmed.

Both Greensboro police and the National Transportation Safety Board are set to investigate the circumstances leading up to the airplane's mechanical failure and subsequent crash.
