The two-wheeler industry is set to experience a sales surge this festive season, propelled by a strong revival in rural demand and favorable monsoon conditions, according to TVS Motor Company Senior Vice President, Aniruddha Haldar.
In an interview with PTI, Haldar noted that the industry's growth is also being driven by the rising acceptance of scooters in rural areas.
The industry has grown at 13% in the initial months of this fiscal, surpassing recent years' growth rates. Rural demand is now outpacing urban demand, a positive sign for the industry, Haldar commented.
While some areas have experienced excessive rainfall, the overall monsoon has been favorable, boosting confidence that the two-wheeler industry will exceed current growth rates in the festive season, Haldar added.
TVS aims to outperform industry growth, bolstered by increased acceptance of scooters even in rural markets, where the scooter segment now accounts for 32% of the industry and is expected to grow.
Technological advancements have narrowed the performance gap between motorcycles and scooters, further driving scooter popularity. The government's consistent investment in infrastructure has improved road quality, benefiting the scooter market, Haldar explained. Additionally, the growing importance of personal mobility, with multiple family members using vehicles for commuting, is contributing to the industry's growth.
