Massive Relief for Delhi's Public Service Vehicle Owners

The Delhi government has exempted around 1.5 lakh public service vehicles from paying the annual Rs 1,400 vehicle tracking charges. Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot announced the move, which notably continues a 2019 exemption for autorickshaws. The Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) has been replaced by the National Informatics Centre (NIC) for vehicle tracking.

The Delhi government has announced an exemption for nearly 1.5 lakh public service vehicles from paying vehicle tracking charges, according to Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot. This decision was revealed during a press conference on Thursday.

Gahlot noted that a similar waiver was previously extended to autorickshaws in 2019. 'There are 2.5 lakh public service vehicles in Delhi, including 85,000 autorickshaws. Autorickshaws are already exempt from paying the Rs 1,200 vehicle tracking charge. Now, nearly 1.5 lakh vehicles will also be exempted,' he said. The annual vehicle tracking charge amounts to about Rs 1,400 after an 18 percent tax.

The responsibility of vehicle tracking will shift from the Delhi Integrated Multi-Modal Transit System (DIMTS) to the National Informatics Centre (NIC) as per a new agreement, Gahlot added.
