The East Coast Railway (ECoR) has set a new benchmark in freight transportation by loading 100.57 million tonnes (MT) of freight in just 148 days during the current fiscal year of 2024-25, concluding on August 26, according to an official statement.

Compared to the previous fiscal year of 2023-24, where ECoR took 152 days to reach similar figures, the railway has shown a 3.37% increase in freight loading, accumulating 3.282 million tonnes more than the corresponding period last year, when the load was 97.288 MT.

The Khurda Road, Waltair, and Sambalpur divisions have significantly contributed to this milestone by loading a variety of freight, including coal, raw materials for steel plants, iron and steel, iron ore, cement, food grain, fertilizer, POL (Petroleum, Oil, and Lubricants), containers, and other cargo. Khurda Road division led with 64.32 MT, followed by Waltair with 27.675 MT, and Sambalpur with 8.575 MT.
