The Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA) has successfully facilitated the export of India's first ready-to-drink fig juice to Poland. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry announced the accomplishment on Saturday. The juice, crafted by Purandar Highlands Farmers Producer Company Ltd., was showcased at the APEDA Pavilion during SIAL 2023 in Greater Noida, New Delhi.

This innovative fig juice garnered attention and accolades at the event, highlighting its potential in international markets. Made from GI-tagged Purandar Figs, the product has been awarded a provisional patent, signifying a major breakthrough in the agriculture sector.

Highlighting the prominence of this achievement, the ministry noted that the fig juice was also presented at Macfrut 2024 in Rimini, Italy, with APEDA's support. Receiving a favorable response, including an inquiry from MG Sales SP in Wroclaw, Poland, this led to the landmark export. The milestone underscores the promise of Indian agro-products and the essential role of Farmer Producer Companies (FPCs) like Purandar Highlands, which was founded in 2021 by 14 dedicated farmers and is recognized as a startup by the Government of India.

The company is pushing boundaries in agricultural innovation, engaging in primary processing like pulping and slicing, and developing advanced sorting, grading, and packaging techniques for sensitive crops such as figs and custard apples. The ministry reaffirmed its support, emphasizing that since the first export of fresh GI-tagged Purandar Figs to Hamburg in 2022, APEDA has collaborated intensely with smallholder farmers, spotlighting the potential of Indian agro-products and the critical influence of R&D in boosting agricultural exports.
