The announcement comes in response to a study by ICMR-INDIAB (2023) highlighting that 10 crore people in India suffer from diabetes, with an additional 13.6 crore affected by pre-diabetes.
Developed by NovaLead Pharma Pvt Ltd, a leader in drug repurposing, Diulcus represents a significant advancement in DFU management. The product has received approval from the Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and financial backing from the Biotechnology Industry Research Assistance Council (BIRAC). The launch event featured notable personalities such as Premchand Godha, AK Jain, Dr. Anil Pareek, Sunil Ghai, and Supreet Deshpande.
Phase 3 trials in India demonstrated Diulcus's effectiveness, boasting a 60.3% ulcer closure rate within three months of treatment. Impressively, the closure rate increased to 77.20% over six months, even after the treatment was stopped at three months. Premchand Godha, Executive Chairman of IPCA Laboratories Ltd, emphasized the drug's significance, noting that DFU is a leading cause of lower limb amputations globally. Starting August 2024, Diulcus will be available through an exclusive IP licensing arrangement with NovaLead Pharma Pvt Ltd.
