The Delhi Metro will commence services at 4 am on all lines from terminal stations on Independence Day, officials announced on Tuesday. This move aims to facilitate public attendance at the ceremony.
The metro will operate every 15 minutes until 6 am on Thursday, following which the regular timetable will be observed. Attendees with bonafide invitation cards issued by the Ministry of Defence can use these for entry and travel, provided they show a valid government-issued photo ID at the stations.
This special arrangement will permit exit only at Lal Quila, Jama Masjid, and Chandni Chowk metro stations, close to the event venue. These cards will also allow return journeys from these stations. Regular announcements will inform passengers, with travel costs reimbursed to DMRC by the Ministry of Defence, according to Anuj Dayal, DMRC's Principal Executive Director.
