More than 40 families of victims of an airliner crash in Brazil gathered at a morgue and hotels in Sao Paulo, as three French government investigators arrived to assist. Forensics experts worked diligently to identify the remains of the 62 people killed in the tragic event.
The Sao Paulo state government announced that all victims' remains were recovered by Saturday night, while investigators continue their work at the crash site. The ATR 72, operated by Brazilian airline Voepass, was en route to Guarulhos international airport when it went down near Vinhedo, 78 kilometers north of Sao Paulo.
Authorities reported that the remains of the pilot and co-pilot were the first to be identified, with ongoing efforts to identify others. Families have been asked to provide medical, X-ray, and dental records to aid the process. The tragedy marks the world's deadliest airliner crash since January 2023.
