Brazilian rescue teams Saturday retrieved the remains of all 62 passengers from the wreckage of a plane crash in Sao Paulo state as families started gathering in the metropolis to identify and bury their loved ones. The Voepass ATR 72 twin-engine turboprop was headed for Sao Paulo's international airport in Guarulhos with 58 passengers and four crew members when it went down in Vinhedo.
Initial reports mentioned 61 passengers, but the number was revised after discovering an additional passenger not listed initially. Voepass confirmed that three of the passengers held dual Brazilian and Venezuelan or Portuguese identification. The Sao Paulo state government announced that operations concluded with body identifications, including those of the pilot and co-pilot.
Authorities have begun transferring corpses to the morgue and called on families to provide medical records for identification. The crash, attributed to severe icing, is under multiple investigations, including by Brazil's air force and Federal Police. ATR manufacturer is supporting the investigation.
