Engineering flaws have been ruled out as the cause of accidents on the Nagpur-Mumbai Samruddhi Mahamarg, which has seen 125 fatal incidents despite being utilized by over 1.18 crore vehicles, according to a senior MSRDC official.
During the inspection of the final phase between Igatpuri and Amane, MSRDC Vice Chairman Anilkumar Gaikwad emphasized that the six-lane expressway is designed for a speed of 150 kmph, ensuring safety for its current 120 kmph speed limit.
Accident causes vary, including loss of control, tailgating, and driver sleepiness. Measures like colorful flags, murals, and rumblers have been introduced to keep drivers alert, and an Intelligent Traffic Management System (ITMS) is being implemented to reduce accidents further.
