Old Bridge Collapse Causes Traffic Chaos on NH 66

An old bridge over the Kali river in Uttara Kannada district collapsed, causing heavy traffic on NH 66 connecting Goa and Karnataka. A truck fell into the river, injuring the driver. Traffic on a new bridge was restricted temporarily. An FIR was registered in connection with the incident.

An old bridge across the Kali river in Uttara Kannada district collapsed early Wednesday, causing significant traffic disruption on National Highway 66, which links Goa to Karnataka.

The collapse occurred at approximately 1:30 AM while a truck was crossing, resulting in the vehicle plunging into the river and injuring the driver, identified as Bala Murugan from Tamil Nadu, according to Karwar police.

Following the incident, night patrol officers and local fishermen successfully rescued the driver. Authorities restricted traffic on the newly constructed bridge to assess its stability, allowing only lighter vehicles to pass through temporarily. An FIR has been filed concerning the collapse.
