The Government of Luxembourg has pledged EUR 3 million to the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), with EUR 1.6 million allocated for regular core resources and EUR 1.4 million directed towards UNDP's thematic priorities. This contribution, part of a total EUR 6 million commitment for 2024 under the Strategic Partnership Framework between Luxembourg and UNDP, highlights Luxembourg’s confidence in UNDP’s mission and its dedication to global development.

The financial support will significantly enhance UNDP's efforts to support the world’s least developed countries, address poverty, advance gender equality, combat climate change, and strengthen resilience to crises. Luxembourg’s contribution will enable UNDP to better assist nations in achieving the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and responding effectively to emergencies and shocks.

Luxembourg’s flexible, multi-year funding approach is crucial for UNDP’s ability to respond rapidly and effectively to development needs and crises. This support aligns with the UN Secretary-General’s Funding Compact, showcasing Luxembourg’s commitment to global development and humanitarian response.

Core resources from Luxembourg will bolster UNDP’s oversight and accountability functions, ensuring the organization maintains high standards of transparency and efficiency in its programs. UNDP is known for its transparency and effectiveness, consistently receiving high ratings among international organizations.

As preparations for the Summit of the Future in September continue, UNDP remains focused on driving progress at global, regional, and country levels. Luxembourg’s ongoing support is vital for achieving breakthroughs that provide countries with the necessary fiscal space and growth pathways to advance the SDGs.

UNDP anticipates continuing its robust partnership with Luxembourg, working together to address multidimensional poverty, promote gender equality, build resilience against crises and climate change, and make significant strides towards the SDGs.
