Maharashtra Unveils Financial Aid Scheme for Women Amid Political Criticism

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar unveiled the Mukhyamantri Majhi Ladki Bahin Yojana, a scheme designed to provide monthly financial assistance to women. Pawar emphasized that despite opposition criticism, the state's prosperous economy can sustain the financial commitments of the initiative.
Addressing concerns over the scheme's economic impact, Pawar assured that the necessary funds, amounting to Rs 35,000 crore, have been allocated within the 2024-25 budget. He argued that it is feasible for Maharashtra to bear the expenses, highlighting the state's commitment to economic independence and empowerment for women.
The program targets women aged 21-65 with a family income under Rs 2.5 lakh, providing Rs 1,500 per month. Pawar stressed the scheme's importance for nutrition, self-reliance, and the overall dignity of women, dismissing opposition claims as politically motivated and factually incorrect.
