Government Extends Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 with Increased Budget
The central government has extended its Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 by two months until September 30, with the outlay enhanced to Rs 778 crore. The scheme, originally launched on March 13, aims to promote EV adoption by offering subsidies and now targets supporting 560,789 electric vehicles.

The central government has announced an extension for the Electric Mobility Promotion Scheme 2024 (EMPS 2024), now running until September 30. The Ministry of Heavy Industries confirmed this extension on Friday, alongside an increased budget of Rs 778 crore.
Initially launched on March 13, 2024, EMPS 2024 aims to accelerate the adoption of electric vehicles across the nation. The scheme, revised from an original outlay of Rs 500 crore, offers subsidy benefits ranging from Rs 10,000 for two-wheeler EVs to Rs 50,000 for large three-wheeler EVs.
The Ministry revealed that the scheme now targets 560,789 electric vehicles, including 500,080 electric two-wheelers and 60,709 electric three-wheelers. Incentives are available only for EVs equipped with advanced batteries. The scheme prioritizes affordable, eco-friendly public transport and will mainly apply to commercial e-2Ws and e-3Ws, while allowing eligibility for privately or corporately owned registered e-2Ws.
