Bomb Alert Disrupts Basel-Mulhouse Airport Before Paris Olympics

Basel-Mulhouse Airport, straddling the Franco-Swiss border, faced a bomb alert and subsequent evacuation on Friday, just hours ahead of the opening ceremony of the Paris Olympics. The airport authorities confirmed the evacuation on their website citing safety concerns.

Operations resumed around midday, and flights gradually started to take off. An air traffic controller revealed this was the seventh bomb alert since last October. Despite resuming operations, an Air France flight scheduled for Paris couldn't depart due to the disruption.

In a related incident earlier, vandals disrupted France's high-speed TGV train network with coordinated actions, causing significant delays on major rail lines, compounding the challenges on the day of the Olympics opening ceremony.
