In a scathing critique, Congress leader Shashi Tharoor has branded the Union Budget for 2024-25 as a testament to the government's economic mismanagement and financial recklessness. According to Tharoor, the budget is an 'underwhelming' document that fails to address the nation's critical issues.

Participating in the budget discussion in Lok Sabha, he highlighted that the government's emphasis on rebranding, rather than actual reforms, is particularly evident in sectors like public healthcare. He cited the renaming of Ayushman wellness centres to Ayushman Arogya Mandirs as a prime example.

Tharoor also took aim at the budget's perceived bias towards certain states, such as Bihar and Andhra Pradesh, while neglecting others like Karnataka and Kerala. He suggested that this selective allocation of resources exposes the BJP's political motives rather than a genuine commitment to national development.
