Aviation Leaders Gather to Tackle Industry Challenges at Farnborough Airshow
Key aviation leaders will convene at the Farnborough Airshow amid supply chain disruptions, aircraft delays, and efforts to reduce emissions. While major orders from Airbus and Boeing are not anticipated, some deals are expected. Industry leaders focus on overcoming pandemic aftermath challenges and the escalating crisis at Boeing.
Aviation leaders from around the globe will meet at the Farnborough Airshow outside London from July 22-26. The summit comes as the industry grapples with supply chain disruptions, aircraft delays, and ambitious emission reduction plans.
Historically known for robust passenger jet orders from Boeing and Airbus, this year's event is unlikely to see a significant flurry of deals. Airbus struggles with output goals while Boeing takes a cautious approach amid its ongoing safety crisis, spurred by a panel incident on a 737 MAX jet in January. Nevertheless, some orders are expected to come through, including potential deals with Virgin Atlantic, Flynas, and Japan Airlines.
Amid political volatility, aerospace and defense sectors, heavily reliant on government programs, are closely monitoring changes. U.S. President Biden announced the end of his re-election bid, endorsing Vice President Harris as his successor, an hour after Faury's remarks. Key issues such as Ukraine and defense program delays will also be discussed, with British Prime Minister Kier Starmer slated to attend.
