Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on Monday presented the Economic Survey 2023-24 in the Lok Sabha, alongside the statistical appendix.
The Economic Survey, an annual government document, reviews the state of the economy and outlines its short-to-medium-term prospects. It is prepared by the Economic Division of the Department of Economic Affairs in the Ministry of Finance under the chief economic adviser's supervision.
Introduced in 1950-51 as part of the budget documents, the Economic Survey was separated from the Union Budget in the 1960s and is now tabled a day before the Budget presentation. The Union Budget for 2024-25 will be presented by Sitharaman on Tuesday.
