The Indian automotive industry will need up to 2 lakh skilled workers by 2030 to align with the government's vision of 30% electric vehicle (EV) adoption, according to the Society of Indian Automobile Manufacturers (SIAM).

An investment of Rs 13,552 crore is anticipated for hiring and training the workforce. "As we look ahead, one of the major constraints the auto industry will face is the dearth of skilled electric vehicle capable manpower," SIAM President Vinod Aggarwal said during a workshop on empowering an EV-ready workforce.

Aggarwal emphasized the urgent need for new skills in battery technology, powered electronics, and motor design. SIAM Vice President Shailesh Chandra highlighted the industry's need for professionals across various disciplines, including electrical, mechanical, chemical, and electronics engineering. Additionally, a 'SIAM EV Skill Gap Study' revealed that India needs to add 30,000 EV-ready workers per year until 2030.
